Bayer-Chef Baumann weist jede Kritik an Kauf von Monsanto zurück
Bayer-Chef Werner Baumann hat Kritik am Kauf von Monsanto zurückgewiesen, nachdem der Aktienkurs des Konzerns in den letzten Monaten abgestürzt ist. Der Konzern stehe "strategisch hervorragend da - gerade wegen der Akquisition von Monsanto", sagte Baumann nach Information von BERLINER TAGESZEITUNG (BTZ), in einem aktuellen Interview. Das akquirierte Geschäft laufe "sehr gut, sogar noch besser als erwartet". Genaue Zahlen wolle er in wenigen Tagen auf einem Kapitalmarkttag nennen.
Bayer steht an der Börse unter gewaltigem Druck, nachdem der Konzern in den USA zu Schadenersatz verurteilt wurde und Tausende weitere Klagen drohen. Bisher gebe es nur ein einziges Urteil, und das nur in der ersten Instanz, sagte Baumann nach BTZ-Information. "Dieses Urteil ist falsch, weil es die Faktenlage ignoriert." Das allein laste "extrem auf unserem Aktienkurs, was wir für übertrieben halten", fügte der Bayer-Konzernchef hinzu.
Ein Geschworenengericht in San Francisco hatte Monsanto im August zur Zahlung von 289 Millionen Dollar (251 Millionen Euro) Schadenersatz verurteilt. Die Jury urteilte, glyphosathaltige Unkrautvernichtungsmittel wie Roundup und RangerPro hätten "wesentlich" zur Krebserkrankung des Klägers beigetragen, eines früheren Hausmeisters. Monsanto legte Berufung ein.
Baumann bekräftigte, Bayer werde am umstrittenen Unkrautvernichtungsmittel Glyphosat festhalten. Dies sei das "bestuntersuchte Erntesicherungsmittel der Welt - sicher, effizient und kostengünstig, aber mit großem Aufwand in Misskredit gebracht".
Ein Verzicht darauf hätte "massive negative Effekte für die weltweite Landwirtschaft, nicht nur in Amerika", sagte Baumann. So würden die Kosten für Nahrungsmittel steigen und die CO2-Bilanz würde sich verschlechtern, weil die Felder dann gepflügt werden müssten, um das Unkraut erfolgreich zu bekämpfen.
Zum geplanten Abbau von 12.000 Stellen weltweit stellte Baumann klar, dies werde "einen bedeutenden Anteil an Arbeitsplätzen in Deutschland betreffen, aber nicht die Mehrzahl der 12.000 Stellen". Der Chemieriese Bayer hatte am Donnerstag bekannt gegeben, dass in den kommenden drei Jahren 12.000 der weltweit rund 118.000 Arbeitsplätze gestrichen werden soll. Zugleich erklärte sich der Konzern bereit, bis Ende 2025 auf betriebsbedingte Kündigungen in Deutschland zu verzichten.
