USA: Donald Trump bestätigt Gipfel mit Kim am 12. Juni in Singapur
US-Präsident Donald Trump hat bestätigt, dass sein historisches Gipfeltreffen mit dem nordkoreanischen Machthaber Kim Jong Un am 12. Juni in Singapur stattfinden wird. Es werde dann ein "Prozess" zur Denuklearisierung Nordkoreas eingeleitet, sagte Trump am Freitag nach einem Treffen mit einem nordkoreanischen Gesandten im Weißen Haus. Bislang war nicht gesichert gewesen, dass der Gipfel tatsächlich stattfinden würde.
Trump zeigte sich zuversichtlich, dass der Prozess zur Denuklearisierung Nordkoreas "letztlich erfolgreich" sein werde. Der nordkoreanische General Kim Yong Chol hatte ihm bei seinem Besuch im Oval Office einen Brief von Kim Jong Un überreicht. Zu dessen Inhalt wollte sich Trump nicht äußern. Er sagte nur, es sei ein "sehr nettes" und "sehr interessantes" Schreiben. Später sagte er, er habe den Brief noch gar nicht geöffnet.
Noch in der vergangenen Woche hatte es so ausgesehen, als sei der Gipfel geplatzt. Trump hatte das Treffen in einem Brief an Kim Jong Un abgesagt - was er mit "offener Feindseligkeit" Nordkoreas begründete. Die Absage hatte aber nur eine kurze Halbwertzeit. Da sich Pjöngjang weiter offen für Gespräche zeigte, ließ Trump die Gipfelvorbereitungen fortsetzen.
