Russland: Vier Tote und 30 Vermisste nach Gasexplosion in Wohnhaus
Bei einer Gasexplosion in einem Plattenbau aus der Sowjetzeit sind am Silvestermorgen in Russland mindestens vier Menschen getötet worden. Bergungshelfer befürchteten, dass zahlreiche Bewohner unter den Trümmern des eingestürzten Gebäudes in der Industriestadt Magnitogorsk im Ural verschüttet sein könnten. Das Katastrophenschutzministerium bezifferte die Zahl der Vermissten am Nachmittag auf 35. Präsident Wladimir Putin traf in der Stadt ein, um mit Überlebenden und Helfern zu sprechen.
Zunächst hatten die Behörden von 80 Vermissten gesprochen, diese Zahl wurde später nach der Bergung mehrerer Bewohner nach unten korrigiert. In dem 1973 errichteten zwölfstöckigen Plattenbau hatten 1100 Menschen gewohnt. Viele standen nun an Silvester bei eiskaltem Winterwetter ohne Wohnung da.
In einer nahe gelegenen Schule wurden Notquartiere errichtet. Teile des Wohnblocks wurden als einsturzgefährdet eingestuft, die Menschen mussten auch hier ihre Unterkünfte verlassen. Die Temperatur in der Stadt sollte in der Neujahrsnacht auf unter minus 20 Grad sinken.
Die Justiz leitete nach der Explosion strafrechtliche Ermittlungen ein. In Russland kommt es immer wieder zu Gasexplosionen. Viele Gebäude stammen noch aus der Sowjetzeit und sind in schlechtem Zustand, vielfach werden auch Sicherheitsregeln nicht eingehalten. Magnitogorsk ist eine große Industriestadt im Ural, sie beherbergt das größte Stahlwerk des Landes. Mitarbeiter beteiligten sich an dem Bergungseinsatz. Der Milliardär Viktor Raschnikow, der das Stahlwerk betreibt, rief zu einer gemeinsamen Kraftanstrengung auf. "Wir teilen den Schmerz", erklärte er.
